THE ANCIENT LANDMARK

It is another new month. I welcome you to the eight month of the year - August. Our theme for the month is “The Ancient Landmark.” A landmark in the most simplified way is anything that is easily seen and recognized from a distance, especially one that enables someone to describe, identify and establish their location. It is something on a land (location or place) that marks it out. The Eiffel Tower, the Great wall of China, the Statue of Liberty are all landmarks. Usually, when one is navigating an unknown location, you look out for landmarks to help you remember your way. This is what a landmark does, it is a pointer or an indicator. A landmark can also mean a boundary that defines a territory. So for instance, a fence is raised to define or mark your portion of land. A landmark can also be likened to a pattern, a set of values, truths, that have been established and walked in over a period of time. Regardless of the context, a landmark is meant to be fixed or permanent.

BUILDING CAPACITY FOR GROWTH & STABILITY

Cheers to the sixth month of the year! I welcome you and all yours to June. Our theme for the month is “Building Capacity for Growth and Stability’. Growth is an expected occurrence; it is one of the basic characteristics of all living things. Therefore, not growing is a cause for concern, but even more worrisome is lack of capacity for the growth one is set to experience. The Bible tells us that Jesus grew. But in what regard? “...in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man” (Lk 2:52). Also, Isaiah 54:2 says, “Enlarge the place of thy tent and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes.” Therefore, enlarging your capacity for growth is not an option, but a Scriptural command. And we know that great opportunities and blessings open to us when we obey God’s Word. Therefore, as we reflect on where we are in life, and what we feel led to accomplish, we must trust God for and intentionally work towards enlargement, expansion and growth in every facet of life. However, it is one thing to grow, it is a completely different thing to develop capacity for growth, and most of the time, growth and stability are two sides of a coin.

SEEKING TO UNDERSTAND

“April showers bring May flowersThe month of April, traditionally a rainy period, gives way to May, when flowers will bloom because of the water provided to them by the April rains. This means that a period of discomfort or hardship you may be experiencing now will give way and provide the basis for your period of happiness and joy. I welcome you to the month of May. Our theme for this month is ‘Seeking to understand’.

GOD OF ALL SEASONS

It’s November! Happy new month family. I welcome you all to the eleventh month of the year. Our theme for the month is God of all seasons. Nathaniel Bassey in his song ‘Wonderful Wonder’ wrote “Summer, Winter, Autumn and Spring … Jesus is the Maker of them all. In Genesis 8:22, God declared, …cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall never cease. Also, Ecclesisates 3:1 reads, there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. All of these point to the fact that seasons and times are controlled by the Almighty God. And as long as you belong to Him, your times and seasons are in His hands (Psalm 31:14-16). Just as William Freeman Lloyd (1824) wrote, ‘My times are in Thy hand, my God I wish them there’, leave them there.
