LEGACY
“One generation will declare Your works to the next and will proclaim Your mighty acts.” (Psalm 145:4)
“A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.” (Proverbs 13:22)
“I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you.” (2 Timothy 1:5)
It’s October!
Happy new month, and welcome to the last quarter of 2026. Indeed, the Lord has been faithful! The Impact 2026 Conference was beyond a success. The Lord showed up and came through for us in such a glorious way. I trust God that we have been marked by the several divine encounters of the past month and that we will go forward in the strength of them. May our testimonies from September abound, in Jesus’ name. Glory to God!
So, what is the Holy Spirit saying as we enter the month of October?
First of all, we know that this is Thanksgiving month in North America. We are therefore called to serve with thankful hearts, remembering all that God is and all that He has done and still keeps doing. Taking this a step further, we are called not only to be thankful, but to build a legacy of gratitude, of generosity, of faith, of faithfulness and devoted service to God. This month, the Holy Spirit invites us to be generational in our thinking: what do we want to be remembered for? Therefore, our prophetic focus this month is LEGACY.
A Legacy of a Good Name (Proverbs 22:1; Genesis 12:2)
What comes to mind when your name is mentioned? Do people want to associate with anyone who bears your name? The Bible tells us that “the memory of the righteous is blessed (held in high esteem)” (Proverbs 10:7). Your name can either be great and open doors, or speak against you and become the reason why doors are shut.
A Legacy of Faith (2 Timothy 1:5)
Do people want to associate with your God? In Exodus 15:2, Moses sang about his father’s God. Parents, do your children want your God? God boasted about Abraham that he would command his children in the way of his faith (Genesis 18:19). Proverbs 13:22 talks about a good man leaving an inheritance for his children’s children. It is foolish to leave material inheritance, and not pass your faith unto your children. Look at Timothy. Compare him to the sons of Eli who lost their heritage of priesthood. Let the God of Abraham also be the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. Involve your children in your walk with God (Psalm 78:4,6-7).
A Legacy of Generosity and Good Works (Ps 20:1-3; 37:25)
Dorcas was someone whose works spoke for her (Acts 9:36-39). Mary of Bethany in Mark 14:3-9 offered a sweet-smelling and expensive sacrifice to Jesus just before His death. He declared that her actions would be a memorial wherever the gospel goes. The Macedonian church in 2 Corinth 8:1-5 also demonstrated a remarkable legacy of rich generosity.
On the contrary, there are those who invite evil to their homes because of their legacy of evil. Remember the proverb in Ezekiel 18:2? Beloved, do not sell off your legacy by an act of wickedness or injustice. Don’t let your children or those around you fight battles and deal with consequences of your actions.
A Legacy of Service to God and Humanity (Mark 10:45)
King David will always be remembered for his devotion to God; Abraham, for his prompt obedience of faith. Enoch has the testimony that he “walked with God” (Genesis 5:24; Hebrews 11:5). Esther, Deborah, Mary, and Ruth are all remembered for their bravery, loyalty and selfless participation in the purposes of God in their time. Jesus Himself gave us the ultimate example of a life poured out for others. In Luke 22:19, He instructed that we partake of the Communion in remembrance and honor of Him—a lasting memorial of His selfless sacrifice for humanity.
As we journey through this month and the rest of the year, I invite us to begin living with the consciousness that our choices outlive us. How do we want to be remembered when we change jobs? Leave a neighbourhood? Move through classes, or a community? May God help us to leave a legacy that glorifies Him in every way (Matthew 5:16).
Our topics this month include “Legacy of Service: Ministering to God”, “Legacy of Gratitude & Giving to God”, “Legacy of Faith, Faithfulness & Loyalty”, and “Legacy of Living Well (Sound Health)”. Shalom!
