SUMMER IN PHILLIPI

“Also, you Christians in Philippi know that you already helped me earlier. That was the time when I started to tell people God's good news. When I left Macedonia, you were the only group of Christians who helped me. We were able to help one another, and no other group of Christians did that for me.” (Philippians 4:15)

“There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that God who started this great and good work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears.” (Philippians 1:6)

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Delight yourselves in God, yes, find your joy in Him at all times.” (Philippians 4:4)

Happy New Month, and welcome to June!
We are now halfway through 2026, and truly, God has been faithful. I believe the wind of God is blowing over our lives and all that concerns us. I decree that every contrary wind stirring up storms is silenced, and that the winds of divine change begin to blow in our favour from this moment onward, in Jesus’ name.

So what is the prophetic focus for June? The Holy Spirit is calling us to an intentional, in-depth study and exposition on one of Apostle Paul’s epistles — his epistle to the Philippians. This letter is known as the epistle of joy. The irony? It was written while the apostle was in a Roman prison. This clearly reveals that joy is not a function of circumstances, nor is it transient. The book of Philippians is also marked by its emphasis on confidence, unity, and perseverance in the Christian faith and life. Throughout June, we would journey through the epistle, gleaning timeless truths and principles for our day and age. Hence, the theme for this month is SUMMER IN PHILLIPI🌞

The letter opens with a heartfelt prayer from Paul for “all God’s people at Philippi”. Philippi was a major mainland Greek city in Macedonia, and a Roman colony. So, these were gentiles who had become believers. Paul prays that they continue to live a life of love that abounds, even as they grow in the knowledge and understanding of God; that they will continue to lead lives worthy of Christ’s return. He then reassures the brethren in spite of his imprisonment, encouraging them to remain steadfast and live continually for Christ.

In chapter 2, Paul turns our attention to our life in Christ, highlighting the humility and greatness of Jesus revealed through His atoning sacrifice. He calls believers to embrace the same mindset Christ demonstrated—selfless, obedient, and servant‑hearted. We are to shine as lights in a dark world, living in such a way that the name of Jesus is honoured. Paul then commends his faithful partners in the gospel, Timothy and Epaphroditus, who served Christ and His people sincerely, unlike others who were driven by self‑interest.

In chapter 3, Paul addresses true righteousness—rooted not in human effort, achievement, or religious credentials, but in the grace of God. He declares that “everything is worthless when compared to the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus” (vs 8). Apostle Paul also expressed his deepest desire to not just know Jesus, but the power of His resurrection and share in His sufferings. He urges the Philippians to keep on running towards the goal for which they were redeemed, even as they wait for the return of Jesus.

In the final chapter, Paul exhorts the brethren to live in unity and harmony, to rejoice always, to guard their hearts from worry and ungodly things. He encourages them to practice the truths they have received and acknowledges and appreciates the gifts they sent to help him in his time of need. He leaves instructions for them, and concludes with a blessing over the believers.

The letter to the Philippians is rich with timeless lessons for both the leaders and members of the church. We are called to serve God’s interest selflessly, to give generously, to grow in the knowledge of God, to have the same attitude as Jesus, to be ready and willing to share in Christ’s suffering, to live in peace with one another, and to never lose our joy and confidence. It is my prayer that through this study, we will behold the wonderful truths from God’s Word in Jesus name.
Our series this month includes: Joy in Every Circumstance; The Way of Humility; The Mature Mindset (Strong Hands, Big Heart), and The Christian’s Strength. Shalom!
